Snapshot: One month in!

This is what I have done in the past four weeks!
-I drank kava. You drink it out of a coconut shell or very small bowl. You have to drink it all at once like a shot. It's a lot. It is okay but you spit afterwards. It is quite funny. But you feel real nice afterwards. Here is my first shell of Kava!!!!

-swam in a coral
-made laplap and simboro (man it is hard work)
-cooked fried bananas on an open fire
- peed every night with about 50 hermit crabs for two weeks
- a pro at bucket showers. I only use about 3/4 of the water and that is with me washing my hair
- sweating my ass off. (This is the worst part. From 10am - 3 pm)
- getting better at getting in and out of a boat. I just make noises the whole time.
- been in two caves.
- learning that swimming in the ocean is WAY different than a pool.
- walked into my bedroom and found a chicken in the window sill.
-locked myself out of my bedroom so papa had to take down the screen and the window and climb in my room to open it.
- hiked up and down a mountain. It rained so it was muddy and slippery. (Probably the hardest thing I have done in four weeks)
- watched 3 football (soccer) games in the pouring rain.
- ate a plate of food with a whole fried fish staring at me. ( I told my papa that I couldn't touch it. He finally took the meat off but left the fish there on my plate.)
- ate some chicken soup and had a chicken heart on my plate. ( the soup was good but I could not eat the heart).
- hand washed my clothes twice... HARD WORK (thankfully my mama does my laundry right now)
- Used and mastered the DIVA cup. (Everyone woman should be using this. It is cost effected and  very safe to use.) definitely a life changer!!!!
- trying to learn Bislama
-taught my first host family how to make guacamole. They loved it!

Island time is for REAL!!!!! It is very hard to get used to it.

These are the only pictures I have from my iPad. I cannot upload my pics from my GoPro because I do not have my computer. I forgot to bring a small camera. So my good friend Christina is sending me one then I will be better at posting pictures. Sorry!!!!

This is my morning view!!

This is my island Nguna for two years! My village is all the way to the right!

Well this is all I have for now. I am going to relax. We are getting ready to go to our next village for the next three weeks of training. Love you all and send me letters!

  1. This is an amazing update! Thanks for the pictures and the list of adventures you've already been on in four weeks! I think this is exactly how I imagined you'd be.
