We arrived in Santo on Thursday March 26th. It was a very long day of traveling. We were split up into two hotels. I was staying at the Unity Park Motel with the other education volunteers. We had our own kitchen to share which was awesome. We did not have ac but we had a fan so it was amazing. The hotel staff was amazing. They even did our laundry which we had to pay for but it was well worth it.
We had to finish our last two weeks of training. Our trainings consist of Bislama lessons. Bislama is very close to English but very different. It has been really hard. We also have culture lessons. We learn about the culture of Vanuatu. We also learn about tradition in Vanuatu. We have learned about facial expression, religious beliefs, chief system, etc. IT is all very interesting. Last, we have technical training. We sit and listen about different teaching strategies. The last week we had teacher practicum. It was great to finally be in the classroom. The kids are so cute.
We did a lot of fun things on the weekends. Our first weekend there we hung out a resort called Beach Front. It is a really nice resort. I could not swim because of my tattoo but it was nice to hang out and relax. I was reading a book the whole time.
The second weekend, we went to 2 blue holes. The first one was called RiRi Blue Hole. It was beautiful. It was so much. There were two ropes to swing from. I have no upper body strength so it was really hard at first. But then I learned that I could sit on the knot on the rope and swing. It was a blast. I screamed the whole time. Everyone was making fun of me. It was a great time to hang out with everyone.
Then some of us went to a second blue hole. I am not sure about the name. It was even prettier but much scarier. I did not swing on this rope. I was too afraid. We had lunch there and then we went back to the first blue hole. We stayed there all day. It was the best.
Our last weekend there half of us went to Champagne Beach. It was one of the prettiest beaches I have ever been to. We all hung out in the water and played games. It was overcast, so I did not put on sunscreen. That was a mistake, I got kind of burnt. We ate lunch there and hung out for the majority of the day. It was an amazing day.
After the beach on Saturday, we had to get ready to fly out for Vila. Luganville is a great city. I feel so lucky that we got spend two weeks there. It was amazing!
Now we are back in Vila and getting ready for swearing in. We are staying at the Pacific Paradise where all the volunteers stay. It is a great place to stay. There is no ac but we have ceiling fans. We also have running water. The shower water is cold but it works. We have been in training the last couple of days and getting ready for swearing in. I will post afterwards about swearing in.
I also had a site change and I will blog about that soon. Until next time!
